“The incidence of breast cancer in Pakistan has risen alarmingly, with one in nine women in the country suffering from this fatal disease. Every year, 45,000 women die of breast cancer. Timely diagnosis can save 99% of lives.” These views were expressed by the experts while addressing an awareness seminar on breast cancer organized by the Zimal Society of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. Speaking at the seminar, experts expressed concerns over the rising number of breast cancer cases across the country.
They said that the number of breast cancer cases in women is increasing due to a lack of awareness and timely diagnosis. Every woman should have her breasts checked every three months, while women over the age of 45 need a mammography once a year. During the awareness seminar, female students also presented a theatrical skit, outlining the feelings, problems, and relief of women with breast cancer. The seminar was attended by Chief Guest Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (TI), Prof. Dr. Rehana Sharif Staff Advisor of Zimal Society, female faculty, and large number of female students. At the end of the seminar, certificates were distributed among the organizers and honorable guests.
