Dr. Ghulam Farid, Secretary, Higher Education Department (HED), Government of Punjab, visited the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (TI). The Vice Chancellor warmly welcomed him and gave a comprehensive briefing on the university’s academic and research activities, major achievements, ongoing projects, and future priorities.
During the meeting, issues faced by the university were discussed along with possible support from the Higher Education Department. The Secretary appreciated the Vice Chancellor’s strategy for steering UET out of financial challenges and welcomed the news of record admissions this year. Deans and Heads of various departments were also present on the occasion. Dr. Ghulam Farid conveyed the Chief Minister of Punjab’s vision of transforming UET into a model university. The Vice Chancellor termed this initiative a commendable and forward-looking step.
The Secretary remarked that under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, UET Lahore is progressing towards achieving a distinguished position at the global level. Later, the Secretary visited several research centers and laboratories, including the Nanotechnology Center, RESOLVE Research Lab, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Research Center, and the Robotics Lab at the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. He expressed his satisfaction over witnessing state-of-the-art equipment of international standards. He also inspected the laboratories of the Polymer Department.
