UET Campus Cleanup Drive 2024

On November 13, 2024, the Prime Minister’s Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club UET Lahore and the Environmental and Horticulture Society (EHS), in collaboration with the Climate Action Forum (CAF) Society, organized a successful “Campus Cleanup Drive 2024” at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. The initiative brought together approximately 150 dedicated students who took part in a campus-wide cleanup, focused on promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Through their actions, these young UET environmental champions not only showcased their dedication to a waste-free campus but also set an example for their peers, fostering a stronger awareness of sustainability and the impact of community-driven change. All participants gathered enthusiastically at the football ground at 10 am, where they were divided into different teams. Equipped with surgical gloves, and masks, students were ready to tackle waste in a safe and organized manner. Each team received three cotton bags to sort and collect waste into 3 categories: plastic, paper, and food waste. Through this activity, the students actively promoted the 3-bin system, reinforcing the importance of proper waste management and its role in creating a greener, cleaner campus. By the end of the drive, participants were proud to see the visible impact of their efforts and felt inspired to incorporate eco-friendly habits into their daily lives. The closing ceremony was held in the Chemical Seminar Hall, where the efforts and achievements of the participants were celebrated.

The closing ceremony of the clean-up drive was graced by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nasir Hayyat, alongside the chief guest, Mr. Mohsin Saboor, Deputy Manager of the Landfill Site at the Lahore Waste Management Company. The advisor (Engr. Qurat ul Ain), Oversight Committee members (Ms. Zarafshan and Mr. Afnan) of the GYM club, and IEER faculty members were also present, showing their support for the initiative. In the closing remarks, chief guest Mr. Mohsin Saboor praised the student’s dedication to environmental stewardship, encouraging them to continue their efforts towards a sustainable future and emphasizing the importance of teamwork and community in driving meaningful change. UET Lahore remains committed to environmental protection and awareness campaigns, consistently striving to promote sustainability through its initiatives.
